Constructed at the Continental Iron Works in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, the U.S.S. Monitor was the first ironclad warship commissioned by the United States Navy during the American Civil War. The Monitor is most famous for its battle against the ship Virginia (formerly the C.S.S.
